Friday Night Tykes: Steel Country
Description: Texas is widely considered to be the top area of the country for youth football, but that doesn't mean it's the only stronghold in America. Western Pennsylvania is another hotbed for youth football, with Pro Football Hall of Famers such as Joe Namath, Johnny Unitas and Joe Montana having been raised in the region known for its steel mills. This series -- part of the "Friday Night Tykes" franchise -- heads to Beaver County, Pa., where kids are pressured to become superstars on the gridiron. With the once-flourishing area now facing hard times with many of the mills having closed, football is the common thread that continues to connect the towns. The show follows 10 and 11-year-olds as they compete for teams like the Aliquippa Lil Quips - arguably, the most respected team in Beaver County -- and the Monaca Lil Indians, which is the oldest youth football program in the county, as well as the smallest team because it often loses prospects to larger squads.
