The Sea Shepherds are led by Captain Paul Watson, who, in 1977, founded the non-profit organization to protect marine wildlife and their habitats worldwide. The Japanese say that their whaling is legally accepted research, but the Sea Shepherds say it is just a cover for illegal commercial whaling. The show's theme song is composed by Smashing Pumpkins front man Billy Corgan.
