Description: In the 1830s, mill-owning families prosper as they employ children as young as 9 years old to work 12-hour shifts in the mills. One such mill is Quarry Bank Mill, where the unpaid apprentices are unable to leave until they reach adulthood. One day a group of the apprentices, led by Esther Price, put themselves at risk to stand up against Quarry Bank's owners, the Gregs, in an attempt to gain their freedom. The apprentices' effort is aided by the arrival of progressive young engineer Daniel Bate and political firebrand John Doherty, who offer the young workers the possibility of a new - and better - future. This factual drama is based on historical events in England during the time.
