The public-access TV series debuted in 1981, hosting the likes of Madonna, Will Smith, and Duran Duran -- and featuring a teenage Kelly Ripa -- before morphing into nationally telecast cable spinoff "Dance Party USA" in 1986. Special episodes commemorating the original show's 30-year anniversary sparked a full-blown revival in Philly and attracted a new generation of passionate participants who dance for the sheer joy of it.
