First in Human

First in Human

Description: Narrated and co-executive produced by award-winning actor Jim Parsons (`The Big Bang Theory'), this three-part documentary is an unprecedented look inside the Clinical Center -- or Building 10 -- of the National Institute of Health in Washington, D.C. Four diverse patients are followed as they participate in a `First in Human' trial -- the initial time when a new therapy is tested in humans. They are cared for at no expense and receive no guarantee that they will benefit from the care -- all in the name of advancing medicine. Because of the risky nature of the trials in Building 10, doctors there can often only partner with patients who have exhausted all the standard options modern medicine has to offer.
