A Passage to Britain

Description: In `A Passage to Britain', academic and historian Dr Yasmin Khan explores the hidden stories to be found in an extraordinary collection of ship passenger lists to chart the changing story of migration from the Indian subcontinent to Britain over three key decades. Yasmin begins with the passenger lists of The Viceroy Of India for 1933-15, a ship that made a 17 day journey from Bombay to Britain and explores how the early pioneers faced a giant struggle to assimilate. Yasmin then explores the migrations triggered by the events of the Partition in the late forties, and continues to see how the gradual fall of the British Empire contributed to many different people coming to Britain to search for a better life.
